Description
The crested partridge (Rollulus rouloul), also known as the roul-roul, has its native range in Southeast Asia. A rare bird with beautiful colors, it offers unique plumage that appeals to the discerning fly tyer. Although it was not commonly used in the classic Victorian era of salmon fly tying, its feathers have gained attention in more recent decades as tiers explore alternative materials and lesser-known birds. Today, roul-roul plumage is valued for its rich, dark tones and fine mottling, making it a distinctive choice for soft-hackles, nymph collars, and traditional wet flies.
